Music lessons on Main Street.
Private guitar, bass, drums, piano and voice lessons for kids and adults. One teacher, one student, once a week at our studio in Downers Grove.
What we teach
Lessons are built around what the student wants to play. A seven-year-old who wants to learn a song from a game and an adult picking guitar back up after twenty years get the same thing: a teacher who plans for them.
Guitar
Electric and acoustic. Chords, riffs, reading, and the songs you actually want to play.
Bass
Groove, timing and playing with a drummer. The fastest way into a band.
Drums
Technique, rudiments and real songs from week one. Electronic kit friendly for apartment practice.
Piano & keys
Classical foundations or pop and rock keys. Either way you learn to read and to play by ear.
Voice
Breath, range and confidence, with songs picked for the singer in front of us.
Ukulele
A great first instrument for small hands. Four strings, songs in the first lesson.

Same time, every week.
Progress on an instrument comes from a weekly lesson and a little practice in between. So that is the whole system: a standing slot with the same teacher, a monthly bill, and a text when anything changes.
Miss a week? Give us 24 hours notice and we schedule a makeup within 30 days.

Sixty-minute group classes for ages 7 to 18. A teacher puts a band together, picks the songs, and runs rehearsal every week for twelve weeks. Then the band keeps going if it wants to.
Students learn to count in, lock in with a drummer, and cover for each other when someone drops a beat. Those are the skills a private lesson can't teach alone.
A lessons studio, not a store.
Evolution Music has taught lessons in Chicagoland for more than ten years. The Downers Grove studio is the lessons-only branch: teaching rooms in an office on Main Street, open for scheduled lessons.
- Teachers who plan for one studentEvery lesson is one on one. Your teacher knows what you played last week.
- Kids and adultsBeginners of any age, returning players, and people who have been meaning to start for years.

Before you sign up
Do you sell instruments or gear in Downers Grove?
No. The Downers Grove studio is lessons only. Evolution Music buys and sells used gear at its stores in Midlothian and Logan Square, and online at evolutionmusicstore.com.
What ages do you teach?
Kids and adults. If a child can sit with an instrument for thirty minutes, they're ready. The Rock Academy band program is for ages 7 to 18.
How long are lessons and how do I pay?
Lessons are weekly, in the same slot each week, and run 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Lessons are paid monthly in advance.
Do I need my own instrument?
You need one at home to practice on. If you don't have one yet, say so when you sign up and we'll point you to something at the right price for a beginner.
What if we miss a lesson?
Give 24 hours notice and we'll schedule a makeup lesson within 30 days.
Can I stop by to look at the studio?
Lessons are by appointment, so there isn't always someone at the door. Text or call (630) 541-5022 and we'll set up a time.
